A simple massing model starts from ₦500,000. A fully-detailed, LED-lit, landscaped presentation model for a large residential estate or master plan typically runs ₦1.5 million to ₦8 million or more. Everything in between depends on five things: scale, materials, detail level, LED or interactive features, and timeline.
This guide breaks down what drives the price of an architectural scale model, what you should expect to pay for each project type, and what's actually included in a quote — so you can budget accurately before you commission one.
What Drives the Price
Two models at the same physical size can cost very different amounts. The variables that actually move the number are:
- Scale: A 1:200 model of a single building needs less material and labour than a 1:200 model of a 30-building estate. Scale determines how much has to be fabricated, not just how big the base is.
- Materials: Acrylic, 3D-printed resin, laser-cut MDF, and painted foam all cost differently to source and work with. A model that mixes fine acrylic detailing with hand-painted landscaping costs more than one built entirely from painted foam massing blocks.
- Detail level: A monochrome massing model for an early design review costs a fraction of a fully painted, landscaped presentation model with accurate material colours and finishes.
- LED and interactive features: Independent lighting zones, working mechanical elements like lifts, and touchscreen integration all add engineering and assembly time on top of the base model.
- Timeline: Standard lead times keep costs down. Expedited production — when it's feasible — is reflected in the quotation.
Price Bands by Model Type
Real Price Ranges (NGN)
- Simple massing or concept model: From ₦500,000 — monochrome, single building or small site, used for early design review or internal presentations.
- Fully-detailed, LED-lit presentation model: ₦1.5 million – ₦8 million or more — for a large residential estate or master plan development, painted to specification with landscaping and independent LED lighting zones.
These ranges cover the two ends of what we build most often. Your exact quote depends on the five factors above — share your brief for an accurate number.
For context on where the LED-lit end of that range lands commercially: on a 120-unit residential estate model we built for a Lagos sales gallery, the total model investment represented less than 0.8% of the revenue from Phase 1 unit sales — and the developer credited the model directly with 90% of Phase 1 units reserving within 90 days of the gallery opening.
"We provide fixed-price quotations after reviewing your brief, so you know the full cost before committing. There are no hidden charges."
What's Included in an ODK Models Quote
Every quote is scoped from your actual brief — architectural drawings, renderings, intended scale, and how the model will be used (sales gallery, investor meeting, or planning submission). That scope covers:
- Digital preparation — converting your drawings into fabrication-ready files
- Materials matched to your specification (acrylic, 3D-printed resin or PLA, laser-cut MDF, painted foam, CNC-milled terrain)
- Landscaping, road networks, and contextual surroundings where applicable
- LED lighting integration, if specified, with independent zone switching
- A custom-built base or plinth finished to your gallery's dimensions
- Packaging and delivery — nationwide in Nigeria, and internationally on request
We require a 50% deposit on confirmation of the commission to begin production, with the balance due prior to delivery. For international clients, we accept bank transfer in NGN or USD and invoice in either currency.
Timeline Affects Cost Too
Production timelines scale with the same factors that drive price:
- Simple massing or concept model: 2–4 weeks
- Mid-complexity presentation model (single building): 4–7 weeks
- Full estate or master plan model with LED: 7–12 weeks
- Large-format complex models: 10–16 weeks
Commissioning early keeps you inside standard lead times. A model requested at the last minute before a launch date is the most common reason a project needs expedited (and more expensive) production.
Why ODK Models Costs Less Than UK or European Studios
ODK Models consistently delivers 30–50% cost savings compared to equivalent commissions from UK and European architectural model studios. The fabrication technology is the same — 3D printing, CNC milling, laser cutting, hand finishing — because our production cost structure is anchored in Lagos, where studio space and skilled labour cost less than an equivalent London or European studio. The quality standard doesn't change; the overhead does.
